In Jain tradition, King Shrenik (also known as Bimbisara) was a prominent royal devotee of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara. According to Jain scriptures, King Shrenik was a sincere follower who often sought guidance from Mahavira and supported the Jain community.

There is no mention in Jain texts of King Shrenik committing suicide. In fact, Jain literature, such as the Uttaradhyayana Sutra and Bhagavati Sutra, describes the end of his life differently. It is said that King Shrenik was reborn as a hellish being (Naraka), due to some of his accumulated karmas, despite his devotion and good deeds. This is often cited as an example of the complexity of karma in Jain philosophy.

Suicide is strictly discouraged in Jainism, as it is considered a form of violence (himsa) against oneself and binds harmful karma. The only exception, under very strict spiritual discipline and with the intention of self-purification, is the practice of Sallekhana (voluntary, gradual fasting unto death), but this is fundamentally different from suicide.
