The Kalpasutra is one of the most important sacred texts in Jainism, especially for the Śvetāmbara sect. It is traditionally recited and revered during the Paryushana festival. Composed by Acharya Bhadrabahu around the 4th century BCE, the Kalpasutra contains biographies of the 24 Tirthankaras, with special emphasis on Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara. It describes their lives, spiritual journeys, and teachings, as well as rules for monastic conduct. The Kalpasutra is highly respected and often illustrated with manuscripts featuring detailed artwork.
