According to Jainism, who are Saraswati Devi, ambe mata and laxmi mata

    10 months ago 623

In Jainism, Saraswati Devi, Ambe Mata, and Laxmi Mata are revered as goddesses, but their roles and significance are understood differently compared to Hinduism.

    1. Saraswati Devi: Saraswati Devi is considered the goddess of knowledge, learning, and arts in Jain tradition, similar to her role in other Indian religions. She is regarded as the presiding deity of knowledge and wisdom. Jain temples and scriptures often feature her image, especially in connection with the study of Jain scriptures (Agamas). Saraswati is worshipped by students and scholars seeking wisdom and success in learning.

    2. Ambe Mata (Ambika Devi): In Jainism, Ambika Devi, often referred to as Ambe Mata, is a prominent Yakshini (attendant goddess) associated with the 22nd Tirthankara, Neminath. She is depicted as a protective mother figure and is often shown with her two children. Ambika is considered a guardian deity who offers protection and fulfills wishes. She is widely worshipped in Jain communities, and her temples are common in Gujarat and across India.

    3. Laxmi Mata: Laxmi Mata is known as the goddess of wealth and prosperity in Jainism. She is associated with abundance and good fortune. Jain households may worship Laxmi Mata during festivals such as Diwali, which also marks the anniversary of Mahavira’s attainment of Moksha. The worship is done with the understanding that material wealth should be used for righteous deeds (dharma) and not for attachment or indulgence.

Important Note: In Jain philosophy, ultimate liberation (moksha) is not achieved by worshipping these deities, but by following the path shown by the Tirthankaras—right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct. The worship of these goddesses is more for worldly well-being, protection, and knowledge, and is considered secondary to the worship of the Tirthankaras and respect for the Jain principles of non-violence, truth, and self-restraint.

    Summary Table:

    | Goddess | Role in Jainism | |-----------------|--------------------------------------------------------| | Saraswati Devi | Goddess of knowledge and learning | | Ambe Mata | Yakshini of Neminath, protective and wish-fulfilling | | Laxmi Mata | Goddess of wealth and prosperity |
