Answer

For 2026, Diwali / Lakshmi Puja is generally observed on Sunday, 8 November 2026.

Approximate local puja muhurtas:

• Mumbai, India: 6:27 PM – 8:27 PM
• Hong Kong: 6:08 PM – 8:06 PM
• California, USA: Please specify the city, because California timings differ by location. For example, Los Angeles / Southern California Jain calendars may observe Diwali-related Jain events on 9 November 2026 locally due to tithi timing.

Jain Understanding

In Jain Dharma, Diwali is especially sacred because it marks the Nirvana Kalyanak of Bhagwan Mahavir Swami. The next day is observed as the beginning of the Jain New Year in many Jain communities.

For Jains, Diwali worship is not primarily Lakshmi Puja, but a time for:

• Remembering Bhagwan Mahavir’s Nirvana
• Dev Vandan
• Recitation of Uttaradhyayan Sutra / Nirvan Ladoo traditions where followed
• Pratikraman, meditation, and spiritual reflection
• Beginning the New Year with forgiveness, restraint, and right conduct

Important Note

Puja muhurat depends on the local panchang, sunset, Amavasya tithi, and location. For California, please share the specific city — such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, or San Diego — and I can give a more appropriate local timing.
