Why do you need to boil water
In Jainism, boiling water is a practice followed to minimize himsa (violence) towards microscopic living beings (known as nigodas) that are present in untreated water. According to Jain beliefs, consuming unboiled or untreated water can unintentionally harm or kill numerous tiny living organisms. By boiling water, many of these microorganisms are killed or rendered inactive, reducing the potential for violence and supporting the principle of ahimsa (non-violence), which is central to Jain philosophy. This practice is especially observed by Jain monks, nuns, and many lay followers as an expression of compassion and carefulness towards all forms of life.
