Answer

The Jain population in Kolkata is not stated uniformly in Jain tradition or religious texts, because this is a demographic/statistical question, not a scriptural one.

Kolkata has a well-established Jain community, especially among Śvetāmbara and Digambara Jains, with many Jain temples, upāśrayas, religious organizations, and community institutions.

Explanation

Jains have lived in Kolkata for many generations, particularly connected with trade, business, philanthropy, temple-building, and community service.

Important Jain presence in Kolkata includes:

• Śvetāmbara Jain temples and upāśrayas
• Digambara Jain temples
• Jain community trusts and charitable institutions
• Religious activities such as Paryushan, Samvatsari, Ayambil, Pravachan, and Tapasya

Takeaway

Kolkata has a significant and historic Jain community, but for an exact current population number, one would need verified census or community demographic data.
