According to Jain tradition, Chandanbala was the daughter of King Dadhivahan and Queen Dharini of Champapuri. Before she became known as Chandanbala, her childhood name (masi name) was Vasumati. This name is often mentioned in Jain scriptures and stories describing her life before her hardships and eventual meeting with Lord Mahavira.
