Which are the 5 kalyanak?
In Jainism, the term "Kalyanak" refers to auspicious events in the life of a Tirthankara or an important spiritual being. There are five main Kalyanaks observed in the lives of Tirthankaras:
- Chyavan Kalyanak (Conception) – The moment when the soul of a Tirthankara enters the mother’s womb.
- Janma Kalyanak (Birth) – The auspicious birth of the Tirthankara.
- Diksha Kalyanak (Renunciation) – The event when the Tirthankara renounces worldly life and takes initiation into monkhood.
- Kevalgyan Kalyanak (Omniscience) – The attainment of Kevalgyan, or infinite knowledge, by the Tirthankara.
- Nirvan Kalyanak (Liberation) – The moment when the Tirthankara attains Moksha, liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
These five Kalyanaks are celebrated with great reverence in Jain tradition.
