Sub sects of Digambaras
In Jainism, the Digambara tradition is one of the two main sects, the other being Śvetāmbara. Within the Digambara tradition, there are several sub-sects (also known as gacchas or sanghas). The main sub-sects of the Digambara tradition are:
- Bisapantha
- Followers of this sect use flowers, fruits, and cooked food during worship. They also use lamps and incense in rituals.
- Terapantha (Digambara Terapanth)
- Terapanthis reject the use of flowers, fruits, cooked food, and lamps in rituals. They emphasize simplicity and scriptural purity in worship.
- Taranapantha
- Founded by Taran Svami in the 16th century, this sub-sect rejects idol worship and temple rituals, focusing instead on meditation and study of scriptures.
- Gumanapantha
- A relatively smaller sub-sect, it holds distinct opinions on ritual practices, emphasizing purity and simplicity.
These sub-sects differ mainly in their interpretation of rituals, worship practices, and emphasis on certain aspects of Jain philosophy. However, they all adhere to the core teachings of Digambara Jainism.
