The period is meant for self-restraint (samyama) and turning away from sensual pleasures, including sexual relations, as these are considered forms of attachment (kashaya) and can hinder spiritual progress. Observing celibacy (brahmacharya) during Paryushana is ideal and recommended, especially for lay followers (shravakas and shravikas), as it helps purify the mind and body and aligns with the spirit of the festival.

Therefore, while it may not be categorized as "wrong" in an absolute sense for householders outside monastic life, it is certainly considered inappropriate and contrary to the principles and spiritual aims of Paryushana in Jainism. Observing celibacy during this period is a way to honor the festival and deepen one’s spiritual practice.
