Paryusham ma ketla kartva na palan karwana
Paryushan Parva during Jainism is a very important festival, and during this period, special emphasis is placed on following "Kartavya" (duties or observances). According to Jain tradition, especially as per the Shravak Kartavya, there are six essential duties (Shad-Avashyak or Chhah Kartavya) to be observed daily, and these are given special importance during Paryushan. These are:
- Samayik – Practicing equanimity and meditation.
- Chauvisantho – Venerating the twenty-four Tirthankaras.
- Vandan – Paying respect to monks, nuns, and elders.
- Pratikraman – Repentance and reflection on one’s actions.
- Kayotsarga – Detachment from the body through meditation.
- Pratyakhyan (Pachchakhana) – Taking specific vows or renunciations.
During Paryushan, Jains strive to observe these kartavya with greater sincerity and discipline, along with additional practices such as fasting, forgiveness (Kshamapana), and reading of scriptures (Swadhyaya).
