Bhakhri bija divse vapray?
Jainism places great emphasis on purity of food and the principle of non-violence (ahimsa), especially regarding what is consumed. According to Jain dietary guidelines, leftover food (known as "baasi" or "purana" bhojan) is generally discouraged because it is believed that microorganisms multiply in stale food, increasing himsa (violence towards tiny life forms).
Bhakhri, a type of flatbread, should ideally be consumed fresh on the same day it is prepared. Consuming it the next day (bijā divse) is generally avoided by devout Jains, particularly among Sthanakvasi and Terapanthi sects, as well as by Jain monks and nuns.
For householders, while some may occasionally eat certain foods the next day, the ideal Jain practice is to prepare and consume food fresh each day, preferably before sunset, to minimize violence and maintain purity. So, according to Jain principles, bhakhri should not be used or eaten on the second day.
