In Jainism, time is considered to be eternal and cyclical, divided into two equal halves: Utsarpini (ascending half-cycle) and Avasarpini (descending half-cycle). Each half-cycle is further divided into six eras, known as aras.

• Nature: This era is characterized by maximum happiness, prosperity, and peace. There is no sorrow, suffering, or distress of any kind.
• Conditions:

- People are extremely tall, beautiful, and live very long lives (measured in palyopama years). - There is no need for any kind of work or struggle. All desires are fulfilled naturally. - No diseases, aging, or death. - There is no religion or spiritual practice because there is no suffering or need for liberation—everyone is inherently happy and content. - There is no occurrence of birth or death as understood in later eras.

• Spiritual Significance:

- No Tirthankaras (spiritual teachers) are born in this era, since there is no suffering to prompt spiritual quest. - The soul enjoys pure happiness, but this is not the ultimate liberation (moksha) as per Jain philosophy.

After the end of the 1st ara, the world gradually descends into lesser happiness and, eventually, into suffering in the subsequent aras.
