What is Samayik vidhi
Samayik Vidhi in Jainism is the procedure or method to perform Samayik, which is a practice of attaining spiritual equanimity and inner peace by meditating on the soul and practicing self-discipline.
Samayik means "for a short while" or "for a fixed time," usually about 48 minutes. During this time, a Jain tries to be free from all kinds of sinful activities, thoughts, and emotions like anger, pride, deceit, and greed.
Purpose of Samayik:
- To calm the mind and bring focus on the soul.
- To practice forgiveness and non-violence.
- To develop detachment from worldly matters.
- To purify karmas and progress on the path of liberation.
Basic Steps of Samayik Vidhi:
- Pratikraman (Repentance): Apologizing for any mistakes or harmful acts done knowingly or unknowingly.
- Pratyakhyan (Renunciation): Resolving not to repeat such mistakes.
- Samayik Karana (Equanimity): Sitting peacefully, meditating on the soul’s pure qualities, and avoiding all sinful activities.
- Bhav (Contemplation): Reflecting on teachings like non-violence (Ahimsa), truth (Satya), and others.
- Namaskar (Respect): Bowing down mentally or physically to the Tirthankaras (spiritual teachers).
Samayik can be done anywhere and anytime, and it helps in spiritual growth by creating a habit of self-control and harmlessness.
This practice is common among both Shvetambara and Digambara Jains, with minor variations in the procedure.
