Kausag na dosho
“Kausag na dosho” is a Prakrit phrase used in Jain practice.
- Original (Śvetāmbara Prakrit): “Kaussagge ṇa me doso.”
- Meaning (arth): “While I am in kayotsarga (kausagga), may no fault accrue to me.” It asks pardon so that small, unavoidable movements (like blinking, swallowing, slight adjustment) during kayotsarga are not counted as transgressions.
Traditions:
- Śvetāmbara: Commonly recited exactly as above during pratikraman/samayik before or during kayotsarga.
- Digambara: The sense is the same; the wording is often given in Sanskrit/Prakrit as “Kāyotsargena me na doṣaḥ” (by/while doing kayotsarga, there is no fault).
Purpose:
- It preserves the purity of the vow while acknowledging the body’s natural functions during the posture of complete relaxation and detachment (kayotsarga).
