What to say if someone ask satama
Jai Jinendra.
“Satamā?” is a casual Jain way (especially in Gujarati/Hindi families) of asking, “Are you fasting today on Satam?” Satam is the 7th lunar day, often observed with upvās or ekāsan.
How to reply, simply and politely:
- If you are fasting:
- If you are not fasting:
If you’re doing a specific niyam, you can add it:
- “Ekāsan karũ chhũ.” / “Aaj main ekāsan kar raha/rahi hoon.” / “I’m on ekasan today.”
- “Beyāsan” or “Upvās” as applicable.
End respectfully if you wish: “Jai Jinendra.”
