when can we brush in ekashna
In Jain practice, during Ekashana (one meal in the day), brushing is kept simple and limited.
- Shvetambar maryada: Brush once in the morning, before Navkarsi time (about 48 minutes after sunrise). Use filtered, boiled–cooled water; do not swallow any water. After you take Pachchakkhan (vow) for Ekashana, you should not brush again that day. No brushing after sunset.
- Digambar maryada: Brush (or use a soft datun/tooth powder) once in the morning after sunrise, using minimal, clean water and taking care not to swallow. Do not brush again that day, and not after sunset.
These guidelines help maintain ahimsa and the purity of the Ekashana vow.
