Can we drink arizona tea during paryushan
Short answer: No—avoid Arizona (bottled) tea during Paryushan.
Reason in Jain dharma:
- Paryushan has a strong focus on ahiṃsā and saiyam. Packaged/processed drinks normally contain unboiled water, additives, possible fermentation, and many micro‑organisms, which goes against the carefulness observed these days.
- Tea/coffee are stimulants; many Jains give them up in Paryushan to reduce rāga–dveṣa and to keep food/drink simple.
- Many Arizona flavors include lemon, fruit extracts, and sometimes honey. Honey is strictly prohibited; fruit pulp/drinks are generally avoided.
- During Paryushan, water is ideally boiled and taken only in the daytime within a fixed time window. Bottled iced tea does not meet this.
Tradition-specific notes:
- Shvetāmbara: Common practice is only boiled water by day; simple, home-cooked food; no outside/packaged items; tea/coffee avoided.
- Digambara (Daśalakṣaṇa): Upavāsa/ekāsana with only boiled water in daytime; stimulants and packaged beverages are not permitted.
Best practice: Stick to boiled water within the prescribed time and take simple, freshly prepared food only. If you have a health condition, follow the guidance (pachchakhān) given by your guru/saṅgh leadership for your area.
