    Recording of pradakshana Doha

    12 months ago 407

I can’t provide an audio recording, but here is the traditional Pradakshina Doha text and a simple, authentic meaning you can use while doing pradakshina.

Pradakshina Doha (commonly recited in many Shwetambar traditions) 1) Kāl anādi anant thī bhav-bhramana no nahi pār, Te bhramana nivārvā pradikshinā dau tran vār. Bhamati mā bhamtā thākā, bhav-bhavāth dur pālay, Darshan–Gyan–Charitra rūp pradikshinā tran devāy.

    2) Janma-maranādi bhay tale, sijje jo darshan kāj, Ratnatrayi prāpti bhāṇī, darshan karo Jinrāj. Gyan vadhun sansār mā, gyan param-sukh het, Gyan vinā jag jivdā, na lahā tattva sanket.

    3) Chhāy te sanchay karma no, rikta kare vādi jehā, Charitra nām niryukte kahyun, vando te guna-gehā. Darshan–Gyan–Charitra e Ratnatrayi nirdhār, Tran pradikshinā te karane, bhav-dukh bhanjanhār.

(After each stanza, many also bow with the Khamāsan sutra: “Icchāmi khamā-samano! vandium, jāvanijjāe nisihiāe, matthaena vandāmi.”)

    Arth (simple meaning)

    • 1st stanza: From beginningless time the soul has wandered in saṁsāra. To end this wandering, I do three pradakshinas. May these three circumambulations remind me to move from delusion to the three jewels—Right Faith, Right Knowledge, and Right Conduct.
    • 2nd stanza: Right Faith at the feet of Jinaraj removes the fear of birth and death and leads to the attainment of the Ratnatraya. Knowledge grows and brings true happiness; without Right Knowledge, beings cannot grasp true tattva.
    • 3rd stanza: Right Conduct destroys accumulated karmas. I bow to that treasure of virtues. Determined in the Ratnatraya—Darshan, Gyan, Charitra—these three pradakshinas become the destroyer of worldly misery.

    Notes on traditions

    • Shwetambar: This Doha is widely used during three pradakshinas after darshan, often with the Khamāsan line between stanzas.
    • Digambar: Many follow pradakshina with Namokar Mantra or stutis (e.g., Siddhachakra or Jina-stuti). A fixed “Doha” text for pradakshina is not uniformly prescribed across all Digambar lineages.
