What is the KAAL for boiled water in paryushan ?
In Jain practice, “kaal” means the allowed time for using previously boiled water (ubālu pānī).
- Shwetambar (Mūrtipūjak, Sthānakvāsī, Terāpanth): The standard maryādā in Paryushan is 1 day—boil during daylight and use only until the next sunrise (sunrise-to-sunrise). After that, discard and prepare fresh. Night drinking is generally avoided, except for health under guru’s guidance.
- Digambar: Lay followers in Das Lakshan also keep boiled/filtered water; many local maryādās allow up to 1 day (sunrise-to-sunrise). Some groups keep a stricter, shorter limit. Follow the maryādā given by your own Āchārya/Saṅgh.
Essence: For most traditions in Paryushan, the kaal for boiled water is one day, sunrise to sunrise, unless your Saṅgh prescribes a stricter limit.
