Which chaityavandan to recite in Paryushan ?
Short answer
- Shvetāmbara (Mūrtipūjak): Do Devāsī Chaityavandan in the daytime and Raī (night) Chaityavandan after sunset on the first seven days. On Samvatsarī (the 8th day), perform the full Samvatsarī Pratikraman; a separate Chaityavandan is not required that evening.
- Shvetāmbara (Sthānakvāsī/Terāpanth): Chaityavandan is not practiced; observe daily Samayik and the prescribed Pratikraman each day, with the full Samvatsarī Pratikraman on Samvatsarī.
- Digambara (during Das Lakshan, which starts the day after Shvetāmbara Samvatsarī): Offer daily Deva-vandana/Chaitya-vandana as per your tradition along with Alocanā–Pratikraman; focus is on the ten virtues.
Simple guidance you can follow
- Days 1–7 of Paryushan (Shvetāmbara Mūrtipūjak):
- Samvatsarī day:
- If time is short:
- Always include Navkār Mantra with reverence; adding stotras like Logassa and Namutthunam is traditional for Mūrtipūjak. Sthānakvāsī/Terāpanth should keep to their non-mūrti-pūjā liturgy.
This keeps the observance authentic: daily avasyakas throughout Paryushan and full Samvatsarī Pratikraman on the forgiveness day.
