    tikhutto Sutra lyric

    12 months ago 145

Here is the traditional Tikhutto Sutra (Prakrit) as recited in Shvetāmbara (especially Sthānakavāsī/Terāpanth) practice.

Roman (standard Prakrit): Tikkhutto: ayāhiṇaṃ, payāhiṇaṃ, karemi, vandāmi, namaṃsāmi, sakkāremi, sammāṇemi; kallāṇaṃ, maṅgalaṃ, deviyaṃ, ceiyaṃ; pajjuvāsāmi, matthaeṇa vandāmi.

Arth (simple meaning): “As I turn (hands) thrice clockwise, I do (pay homage), I bow, I salute, I honor and respect. You are auspicious and benevolent, divine and venerable. I render service and, with my head bent, I offer obeisance.”

    Notes on tradition:

    • Shvetāmbara usage: Recited when bowing to a Jain ascetic or Guru, often within Pratikraman/Chaityavandan. The hand-rotation thrice (rightward) accompanies the opening words “Tikkhutto…”.
    • Digambara usage: This sutra is generally not part of the standard Digambara liturgy. Digambara traditions offer Guru-vandana through other established hymns.
