Customary time and manner (both traditions follow the same spirit; local maryādā may vary):

• Preferably in the morning, after snātra/temple‑darśan and before taking food, while seated in samayik.
• In the presence of a Guru/Ācārya/pravartak; if not available, in the upāśray/temple before Jina with prior pachchakkhān from Guru.
• If done with pratikraman, it is taken at the close of samayik/pratikraman.
• Avoid taking new pratigya at night; daylight hours are preferred for clarity and mindfulness.
