    Why is jainism ?

    12 months ago 218

If you mean “Why choose Jainism?”—here is a simple answer:

    • Purpose: Jainism shows a clear path for the soul to become pure and free from all karma, finally attaining moksha (liberation), through the Three Jewels—Right Faith, Right Knowledge, and Right Conduct.
    • Ahimsa (non‑violence): It teaches complete non‑violence in thought, word, and action toward every living being, bringing peace, compassion, and inner calm.
    • Anekantavada (many‑sidedness): It cultivates humility and respect for different viewpoints, reducing conflict and anger.
    • Aparigraha (non‑possessiveness): It encourages simple living and contentment, lowering attachment and stress.
    • Practical ethics for all: Five vows guide life—Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, Brahmacharya, and Aparigraha. For householders they are small vows (anuvratas); for monks and nuns they are great vows (mahavratas).
    • Personal responsibility: The law of karma is central. There is no creator‑god to save us; our own right conduct purifies us.
    • Harmony with nature: Carefulness in diet and lifestyle (e.g., strict vegetarianism/vegan ideals, mindfulness in daily actions) protects countless lives and the environment.
    • Timeless guidance: The 24 Tirthankaras, especially Bhagwan Mahavir, revealed a complete, disciplined path that remains practical today.

Both Digambar and Shvetambar traditions fully share these core principles; their differences are mainly in monastic discipline, attire, and certain scriptural collections—not in the goal of liberation.
