    Name of this taap

“Taap” means tapasya (penance) in Jain Dharma. Because there are many kinds, I can’t identify the exact one without details of what was done (days, food rules, breaks, etc.). Below are the most common taap names so you can match yours and confirm:

    • Upvās: full fast for a day (no food; water as per vow).
    • Ekāsan / Beāsan: one or two sittings of simple food.
    • Ayambil: one meal, tasteless (no spices/oil/sweets), usually boiled grains/pulses.
    • Chauvihār/Tivihār: no food after sunset; water rules vary.
    • Attham: 3 consecutive days of fasting.
    • Atthai: 8 consecutive days of fasting (often during Paryushan/Das Lakshan).
    • Oli (Ayambil Oli): 9 days of daily Ayambil (twice a year).
    • Masakshaman: 30 days continuous fasting (by vow and capacity).
    • Varsi‑tap: alternate‑day fasting for about 1 year (often 13 months).
    • Pakkhi upvās/niyam: fortnightly disciplined fasts or rules.
    • Santhārā/Sallekhanā: final vow of pious fasting at life’s end (undertaken with right guidance).

Traditional categorization of 12 Tapas (for clarity):

    • External (Bahya): Anashan (fasting), Unodari (reduced diet), Vritti‑saṅkṣep (limit sources/quantity), Rasa‑parityāg (give up tastes), Kaya‑klesh (austerities of body), Sanlinatā/Vivikta‑śayyāsana (solitude/simplicity).
    • Internal (Abhyantar): Prāyaścitta (repentance), Vinaya (reverence), Vaiyāvṛtya (seva), Svādhyāy (study), Vyutsarga/Kṣamā (letting go of passions), Dhyān (meditation).

If you share what was observed (e.g., “one meal of tasteless food for 9 days” or “alternate‑day fasts for a year”), I will tell you the exact name accordingly.
