Yes, it is a valid tapa.

    How it is counted

    • This is bahya-tap called Anshan (Upvaas).
    • Because you did parna in between, it is not one continuous 8‑day fast (not Atthai).
    • It will be counted as:
    1) Two continuous upvaas at the start (commonly called “beasanu/beesan” in many sanghs), then 2) After parna, five more upvaas (these five count as a separate block; if done without any parna among them, they are five‑day continuous upvaas).

    Name of this tap

    • In Shwetambar and Digambar maryada, specific names like Attham (3 days) and Atthai (8 continuous days) are only for uninterrupted fasts.
    • Your pattern is best described simply as “2 upvaas + parna + 5 upvaas” (i.e., anshan with a break). It is not called Atthai, and there is no single special scriptural name for this exact broken sequence.

Maryada tips (to keep it spiritually sound)

    • Take proper pachchakhyan/niyam for each block (and daily, if advised).
    • Boiled water only in daytime; parna in the proper parna‑muhurat as per your sangh.
    • Do pratikraman, svadhyaya, and maintain apramatta bhav; purity of bhav is more important than the count.
