For paryushan, If i fast for 1st 2 days upvaas and then a day parna then other 5 days remaining i do again upvaas is it valid as a taap. Name of this tap.
Yes, it is a valid tap (external tapa: Anshan). But because you do parna (break) after the first 2 upvaas, it is NOT one continuous 7‑day fast. It counts as two separate fasts:
- 2 continuous upvaas = “Be Upvās” (Skt: Dvi‑upavāsa)
- 5 continuous upvaas = “Pañch Upvās” (Skt: Pañca‑upavāsa)
So, the name is not a single special tap like Atthai (8 continuous), Attham (3 continuous), or Varsitap (alternate‑day for a year). It is simply two Anshan tapas done in two phases during Paryushan.
Tradition notes
- Shwetambar: usually only boiled water in daylight during upvaas; do pachchakkhān (pratyākhyān) for each phase, with proper samayik, pratikraman, and parna maryādā.
- Digambar: often nirjal (no water) unless guided otherwise; likewise, take the vow for each phase and follow maryādā.
