Here is the simple, traditional life‑story of Bhagwan Sambhavnath, the 3rd Tirthankar, as preserved in Jain tradition.

Previous life

• In his previous birth he was King Vipulvahan. During a severe drought he opened his granaries and treasury, fed monks, nuns, laypeople, and never allowed anyone to go hungry. His compassion and egoless charity became the cause for binding Tirthankar‑naam‑gotra karma.
• Seeing the world’s impermanence, he renounced, took diksha under Acharya Svayamprabh Suri, and after completing that life was reborn in the heavenly realm.

Birth and childhood

• He took birth at Shravasti in the Ikshvaku lineage to King Jitari and Queen Susenā.
• Auspicious prosperity prevailed in the land; hence he was named “Sambhav,” indicating that what seemed impossible became possible (sambhav).
• From childhood he was detached from luxury, gentle, and compassionate.

Kingship and renunciation

• In due time he married and was crowned. He ruled with dharma and dayā (compassion).
• After a long, peaceful reign he accepted diksha, practicing severe self‑discipline and meditation.

Kevaljnan and preaching

• After years of sādhanā he attained Kevaljnan. A divine Samavasaran arose, and he gave deshnā establishing the path of right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct for the fourfold sangh.
• His teachings emphasized ahimsa, aparigraha, truthfulness, and generosity grounded in inner purity rather than pride.

Nirvana

• In the end, Bhagwan Sambhavnath attained moksha at Sammed Shikhar. (Different traditions mention slight differences in exact lunar dates, but agree on Sammed Shikhar as the place.)
