    3 day prahar pachakkan

    12 months ago 80

Here is a simple, authentic way to take a “Prahar Pachchakkhan” (time‑bound pratyakhyān) for 3 days.

    What it means

    • Prahar = about 3 hours. A day-night cycle has 8 prahars (4 day + 4 night).
    • Prahar Pachchakkhan = you allow yourself to take food/drink only within a chosen prahar; outside that prahar, you abstain.
    • Duration you want: 3 days.

How to do (simple procedure) 1) Sit in śuddha-bhāv (clean intent), face East or North. Recite Navkār Mantra. 2) Clearly state: your name, place, date, chosen prahar (with clock times), and duration (3 days). 3) Take the vow (pachchakkhan) with exceptions only for medicine per your guru/maryādā. 4) End with kṣamā-yāchanā: “Micchāmi Dukkaḍaṃ.”

Sample wording you can use (choose one language and fill the blanks)

    • English
“I, [name], at [place], on [date], take a Prahar Pachchakkhan for 3 days. I will take food and drink only during the [chosen prahar] from [hh:mm] to [hh:mm]. Outside this prahar, I renounce all food and drink. Medicine, if truly needed, will be taken only as per maryādā. I will keep care for non‑violence and self‑restraint. Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ.”
    • Gujarati

    Notes by tradition

    • Śvetāmbara: Commonly done with Navkār, saṅkalp, and pachchakkhan wording as above; often taken before or after samayik/pratikraman.
    • Digambara: The practice is “pratyākhyāna/niyama” with the same essence—time‑bound aahar‑niyam. Exact phrasing may vary by ācārya/maryādā. Keep the same clarity: time window, items renounced, and duration.

    Helpful tips

    • Write the exact clock times for your chosen prahar (e.g., Day 2nd Prahar: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM).
    • If you also wish to include items to avoid (e.g., roots/greens/processed foods), add them clearly to the vow.
    • Renew the bhāv each morning; close the 3rd day with heartfelt kṣamā.
