Can we eat pasta in paryushan
Short answer: Only if it fully matches the vows you have taken for Paryushan.
Guidance
- Shwetambar practice (during the 8 days of Paryushan):
- Generally avoid green vegetables and underground roots, and do not eat after sunset.
- Pasta may be acceptable if it is:
- 100% eggless (most dry pasta is; many fresh pastas are not).
- Cooked at home the same day, before sunset (no leftovers).
- Without onion/garlic, without fresh green vegetables, and with very simple, non-stimulant spices.
- Preferably plain or with a simple, non-veggie dry preparation.
- If you have taken stricter vows like ayambil, boiled food, or upvaas, pasta will usually not fit (ayambil is one meal, very plain, without oil/ghee/sugar and without green vegetables; many avoid such preparations altogether).
- Digambar practice (during Das Lakshan that follows Paryushan):
- Emphasis is on fasting, restraint, and very simple food. Many observers would avoid pasta-style preparations. If on ayambil/upvaas/ekasana, pasta generally does not fit.
If in doubt, choose the simpler option that reduces himsa and indulgence, and follow the specific niyam you have taken from your guru or local sangh.
