After period, when can we go to temple
In Jain tradition, a woman during menstruation (rajasvalā) usually avoids entering the temple, touching mūrtis, or doing pūjā/abhiṣek.
When can you go to the temple again?
- After the bleeding has fully stopped and you have taken a complete bath (snān) and worn fresh, washed clothes.
- In many families this means from the 4th day; if any spotting continues, wait until it fully stops and then go after a purifying bath.
- Local maryādā (temple rules) may differ slightly; follow your temple’s guidance or your guru’s instructions.
What you can do during the period
- Bhāva-bhakti, japa, prārthanā, listening to pravachan, svādhyāy at home, away from the shrine area.
- Maintain ahiṁsā, daya, and śuddha bhāva; these are always encouraged.
Note on traditions
- Both Digambar and Śvetāmbar communities generally follow this maryādā for the days of active bleeding, with resumption after snān once it ends. Exact counting of days can vary by family/custom.
This keeps the sanctity of pūjā and also supports personal cleanliness and temple maryādā.
