What are day wise dharma to be followed in parushan

    10 months ago 160

Here is a simple, day‑wise outline of dharma (practices) for Paryushan in both traditions. Follow what your local sangh and guru prescribe; variations exist by gacch/sampradaya.

Shwetambar Paryushan (8 days, ending with Samvatsari) Daily foundations (all 8 days)

    • Ahimsa in thought–speech–action; avoid harm to even the smallest beings.
    • Niyam: Upvaas/Ekasan/Beasan as possible; boiled water only; no night‑eating.
    • Swadhyay: Agam/Kalpasutra listening, pravachan, bhavna.
    • Samayik (at least 48 minutes), Pratikraman (morning/evening if possible), Kayotsarg, Japa (Navkar).
    • Alochana–Prayashchit (confession–atonement), Daan (abhaya, aushadhi, anna, gyan).
    • Restraints: control of senses, careful speech, avoid gossip/entertainment, simplicity.

    Day-wise focus

    1. Pravesh (entry): Take pachchakkhan/vrat. Begin with cleanliness of body, home and mind; strengthen anuvrats and food maryadas.
    2. Bodh (awakening): Deep swadhyay; extend samayik time; reflect on anitya (impermanence) and samyak darshan.
    3. Vairagya (dispassion): Start/strengthen Kalpasutra vanchan; practice longer kayotsarg; reduce possessions/use.
    4. Tap (austerity): Observe pratikraman carefully; do upvaas/ayambil if able; intensify inner purity.
    5. Janma Vanchan (Mahavir Janma kalyanak reading): Celebrate inwardly with maryada; offer devotion without indulgence; reaffirm ahimsa and satya.
    6. Shuddhi (purification): Alochana–prayaschit in detail; mend faults; seek and grant forgiveness within family and sangh.
    7. Maitri (friendliness): Cultivate maitri–pramod–karuna–madhyastha; do abhay daan (protect beings), charity, and reconcile pending disputes.
    8. Samvatsari (Kshamapana): Annual Pratikraman; ask forgiveness from all—Michchhami Dukkadam; release trapped beings, settle dues, and conclude fasts with maryada.

Digambar Das‑Lakshan Parva (10 days, ten supreme virtues) Each day centers on one Uttam Dharma with tapas, swadhyay and restraint:

    1. Uttam Kshama (supreme forgiveness): Kshamapana to all; drop anger and grudges.
    2. Uttam Mardava (humility): Remove pride; bow to all virtues.
    3. Uttam Arjava (straightforwardness): Absolute honesty in thought, word, deed.
    4. Uttam Shauch (inner purity/contentment): Clean living; contentment over cravings.
    5. Uttam Satya (truth): Speak beneficial, non‑hurtful truth; observe maun for periods.
    6. Uttam Sanyam (self‑restraint): Guard senses; reduce wants and movement; carefulness (samiti/gupti).
    7. Uttam Tap (austerity): External and internal tapas—upvaas, ayambil, swadhyay, meditation.
    8. Uttam Tyag (renunciation): Give up favorite items/habits; charity with right intention.
    9. Uttam Akinchanya (non‑possession): Minimize use and attachment; simplicity in all activities.
    10. Uttam Brahmacharya (celibacy/chastity): Restraint of all senses; uplift mind in vitarag dhyana.

    Helpful daily routine (both traditions)

    • Morning: Navkar, samayik, swadhyay; take/renew pachchakkhan.
    • Day: Jiv daya (water/food for beings without himsa), truthful work, minimal consumption, seva.
    • Evening: Pratikraman, alochana–prayaschit, kshamapana within family; maintain maitri through “Micchami Dukkadam.”
    • Food maryada: Boiled water, sunrise‑to‑sunset eating only, and as per local maryada avoid green vegetables/roots during the parva.
    • Keep the mind in four bhavnas: maitri, pramod, karuna, madhyastha.

    Note

    • Shwetambar Paryushan is 8 days culminating in Samvatsari Pratikraman and Kshamavani.
    • Digambar Das‑Lakshan is 10 days focusing day‑wise on the ten virtues above.
    • Follow your guru/viharman instructions for exact maryadas, timings, and texts to study.

May the observance lead to inner purity and universal forgiveness. Michchhami Dukkadam.
