A jain women knowing of her menstural periods went to temple.wt to do then
Short, tradition-based guidance in Jain Dharma
If a woman realizes she has started menstruation after reaching the temple:
- Do a mental Namokar Mantra with folded hands from outside the sanctum, offer inner bowing, and calmly leave the garbhagriha/sanctum without touching idols, puja articles, doors, or railings.
- If any entry or touch happened unknowingly, do simple pratikraman/ālochana at home the same day: accept the mistake was unintentional, ask forgiveness, and resolve to be careful.
During the period (till it ends and you have bathed and changed into fresh, clean clothes):
- Avoid dravya-pūjā (abhishek, aarti, āngi), touching idols, padukas, scriptures, chowki, or temple upkarans.
- Prefer bhāva-pūjā at home: Navkār japa, stavans, quiet meditation, swādhyāy by listening, kindness and ahiṁsā in conduct.
- Resume regular temple worship after the period ends and proper snān-shuddhi.
Sect-wise maryādā (may vary by sangh):
- Digambar: Generally stricter—do not enter temple premises or handle scriptures/puja items during menstruation; focus only on mental bhakti and listening.
- Śvetāmbar: Commonly avoid the sanctum and any dravya-pūjā; in some places, sitting in pravachan/upāśraya areas for listening is allowed as per local maryādā. Follow your local temple’s rules and guru’s guidance.
Essence Jain practice here is about ritual shuddhi and carefulness, not blaming. Intention (bhāva), humility, and ahiṁsā are foremost.
