What is jamikhand and lilothi?
- Jamikhand (also spelled jimikand): the root vegetable Suran/elephant‑foot yam. In Jain practice it is counted among kand‑mool (underground foods) and is generally avoided because uprooting it kills the whole plant and disturbs countless tiny life‑forms.
- Lilothi (Gujarati: “green, tender”): refers to green leafy/tender vegetables—like spinach, methi, coriander, etc. Many Jains especially avoid lilothi during Chaturmās/Paryushan to minimize harm to minute beings present in such fresh greens.
