Why can't we go to mahavedeh kshetra
Short answer: Because of the structure of the Jain universe and our karmic limitations, humans born in Bharat Kshetra cannot physically reach Mahavideh Kshetra. One can be there only by taking birth there due to suitable karmas, not by traveling there from here.
A little more detail:
- What Mahavideh Kshetra is: It is the central region of Jambudvipa where Tirthankaras are always present and preaching. It is a special karmabhumi with continuous dharma‑tirtha.
- Why we can’t “go” there:
- What we should do: Follow right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct, practice vows, and purify karma. With such puruṣārtha, a future birth in Mahavideh (and direct contact with living Tirthankaras) becomes possible, or one advances toward moksha.
Notes on traditions:
- Both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions agree on the inaccessibility of Mahavideh to humans from Bharat in the present state; the emphasis and cosmographic details may be explained differently, but the conclusion is the same.
