How long after my periods can I do pooja
Short answer
- During periods: avoid murti‑puja, abhishek, entering garbha‑grah, touching idols or scriptures. Do quiet bhakti at home (jaap, prarthana, swadhyaya, listening to pravachan).
- After periods stop: take a full bath, wear fresh washed clothes, and then resume pooja.
Tradition-wise guidance
- Shvetāmbara (commonly followed): refrain for 3 days; resume on the 4th day after snān, provided bleeding has fully stopped.
- Digambara (commonly followed): refrain for 4 days; resume on the 5th day after snān, provided bleeding has fully stopped.
If bleeding continues beyond these days, wait until it fully ends and then do pooja after a cleansing bath. These are achār (customary conduct) for ritual shuddhi; they do not reduce your spiritual worth. Inner sādhanā is always allowed.
