If you haven't done any fast and done pratikraman in evening how many times and till what time can you drink water
Simple Jain practice (for a layperson who is not fasting)
- Daytime only: Drink properly boiled and filtered water after sunrise and stop by sunset.
- After evening pratikraman: Do not drink any water once sunset has occurred; resume only after sunrise the next day.
- “How many times?” There is no fixed count. Drink minimally as needed in the daytime; avoid during the pratikraman itself.
- Good discipline followed by many: start after Navkarsi (about 48 minutes after sunrise) and finish the last sip a little before sunset.
Tradition notes
- Shwetambar (Deravasi/Sthanakvasi/Terapanth): No water after sunset (chauvihar). Daytime water should be boiled and filtered.
- Digambar: Same baseline—no water after sunset; daytime water only if boiled and filtered, with generally stricter restraint.
Allowances
- If genuinely required for health/medicine, take minimal boiled water as aushadh according to your tradition’s guidance, with inner repentance (pratyakhyan).
