What do you say if you are unmarried when reciting pratikraman if “sādhār” = a man “with wife”; “sabhartār” = a woman “with husband.”
In Pratikraman, these words describe marital status in Prakrit.
- sādhār = a man “with wife.” If a man is unmarried (or widowed/separated), he says: asādhār.
- sabhartār = a woman “with husband.” If a woman is unmarried (or widowed/separated), she says: asabhartār.
Note: The prefix “a-” means “without.” Both Śvetāmbara and Digambara traditions use the same sense here; only minor pronunciation differs regionally.
