Ekasana pachhkhan means
“Ekasana Pachhkhan” means taking a formal Jain vow (pachhkhan/pachchakkhan) to eat only once in the day, in one sitting.
- Ekasana = one sitting/one meal in a day.
- Pachhkhan = pratyakhyan, a solemn resolve taken for a set time.
Common points followed
- Only one meal is taken that day, at one place, in one continuous sitting.
- Generally before sunset; after the meal, no more food is taken that day.
- Water rules are kept as per one’s tradition; boiled/filtered water is usually allowed only at permitted times.
- The vow is taken with samyaktva (right intent), for self‑restraint, aparigraha, and himsa‑nirodh (care to avoid harm).
Tradition notes
- Shvetambar and Digambar both accept the essence: one meal in one sitting. Minor procedures (like exact water timings and small rules) may differ by tradition or gaccha. Follow the vidhi taught in your sangh.
