Jainism is one of the oldest religions in the world. According to Jain tradition, it is eternal, having no specific beginning or founder. Jain teachings say that the truth has been revealed in every era by Tirthankaras (spiritual teachers). In the current time cycle, the most recent Tirthankara was Lord Mahavira, who lived in the 6th century BCE (around 599–527 BCE). He revitalized and reorganized the Jain community, but Jainism itself considers its origins to be timeless, far older than Mahavira, with Lord Rishabhanatha (Adinath) recognized as the first Tirthankara of the current time cycle.
