    translate logassa sutra

    9 months ago 102

Here is a simple, faithful English meaning (sense‑translation) of the Logassa (Śvetāmbara tradition), preserving its devotional intent:

    • I bow to the Arihantas, the makers of the ford of Dharma in the universe; they are serene, free from sorrow, givers of fearlessness, and the source of auspiciousness.
    • I venerate all the 24 Tirthankaras who have conquered passions, destroyed all karmas, attained omniscience, and show the path to liberation.
    • By remembering and bowing to these Blessed Ones, may the bonds of sin be cut off, suffering be pacified, and auspicious virtues arise within me.
    • May their teaching lead me to right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct, and to peace for all living beings.
    • I place my head in reverence at the feet of those Ford‑makers; may their grace inspire purity, equanimity, and the courage to renounce violence and deceit.
    • Homage to all perfected Siddhas who have reached the highest bliss; homage to the Acharyas, Upadhyayas, and all Sadhus who preserve and spread the path shown by the Jinas.
    • May this worship of the Tirthankaras become the cause of ending the cycle of birth and death and of attaining supreme happiness.

    Notes on traditions:

    • Śvetāmbara usage: Logassa is recited in daily Pratikraman, often with the names of all 24 Tirthankaras.
    • Digambara usage: The comparable praise is the Chaturviṃśati‑stava (Sanskrit) honoring the same 24 Tirthankaras; the essential meaning is the same—reverence to the Jinas and aspiration for liberation.
