Doha for deep puja
Here are a few simple Jain bhakti dohas you can recite during Deep (lamp) Puja. These are devotional couplets (lok-prayukt), meant to keep the focus on Jain tattva while lighting and waving the deep. You may begin with the Navkar Mantra, then recite any of these dohas, and proceed to Aarti.
1) Deepak jale gyan ka, andhkaar sab door, Navkar-smaran se ho, samyak-darshan noor.
2) Daya ka deep jalao, kshay ho krodh-vikar, Arihant-Siddh guru dhyaao, ho antar sudhdh saar.
3) Prabhu ke charan samipe, jyoti kare prakash, Mithyatva-raag nivarte, udaye vivek-vilas.
4) Kashayon ki aandhi mein, deepak bane vivek, Pancha-Parmeshthi bhajo, atma ho avivek.
How to use
- First recite Navkar Mantra.
- Light the deep and slowly circle it before the idol or Siddhchakra while reciting one or two dohas.
- Then sing the traditional Aarti of your tradition (Shwetambar or Digambar), followed by Mangal Divo/Deepti as practiced in your sangh.
Note
- These dohas are devotional and not from canonical Agams. They are composed to align with Jain principles: ahiṁsa (daya), samyak darshan-jnan-charitra, and the Panch Parmeshti.
- If you wish only scriptural verses, you can simply chant the Navkar Mantra or brief stutis like “Logassa” (Prakrit) during Deep Puja.
