Can we makhana
In Jainism, dietary practices are guided by the principle of ahimsa (non-violence). Makhana, also known as fox nuts or lotus seeds, is a plant-based food and does not involve harm to sentient beings when harvested. Therefore, makhana is generally considered permissible for consumption by Jains, especially among those who follow vegetarian diets.
However, strict Jains may avoid foods that involve uprooting the entire plant or those that may harbor small insects. Since makhana is collected from the seeds of the lotus flower and typically does not require uprooting the whole plant, it is generally acceptable. As always, care should be taken to ensure cleanliness and to avoid accidental harm to living beings during preparation.
If you follow a specific sect or stricter dietary restrictions, it is advisable to consult with a knowledgeable Jain monk or your community guidelines.
