Jain chaityavandan vidhi shwetambar
Here is a simple, traditional Chaityavandan vidhi (Śvetāmbara Mūrtipūjak). Local paddhati (gaccha/mandir) may have small variations—follow your temple’s maryādā first.
Before you begin
- Shuddhi: Bathe, wear clean simple (preferably white) clothes, no leather. Use muhpattī if that’s your practice.
- Keep a calm, humble bhāv. Switch off phone, maintain silence.
At the derāsar (temple) 1) Three Nissihis
- 1st at the outer entrance, 2nd inside the mandir, 3rd near the vedi. Meaning: “I renounce worldly thoughts and focus only on the Jina.”
2) Pradakshiṇā
- Circumambulate the vedi (usually 3 times) slowly with joined hands.
3) Darśan and Praṇām
- Do pañchāṅg or aṣṭāṅg praṇām as per your tradition. Offer inner devotion only (no asking for worldly things).
Chaityavandan (main avashyaka sequence, seated) Sit steady (padmāsan/ardha‑padmāsan or straight). Keep eyes soft and mind still.
Recommended order (Śvetāmbara)
- Navkār Mantra (3 or 9 times) with full concentration.
- Chattāri Maṅgalam / Maṅgalik (auspicious opening).
- Iriyāvahiyam (asking forgiveness for harm while moving).
- Tassa Uttari (atonement for minor transgressions).
- Khamāsaman / Khamemi Savve Jīvā (forgiveness bhāv for all beings).
- Logassa (Chaturviṁśati‑stava: praise of the 24 Tīrthaṅkars).
- Alochanā (brief inner confession).
- Pratyākhyān (small resolve to avoid faults).
- Kāyotsarga (standing meditation, gentle stillness and detachment).
- Stuti/Stavan as per local paddhati; Maṅgal Pāth to conclude.
- Final praṇām and quiet reflection before leaving.
Notes
- Some mandirs combine Chaityavandan with short Āvaśyakas of Sāmāyik. If your tradition does so, take the Sāmāyik vow first, then continue the above sequence.
- If sādhus/sādhvīs are present, do vandan with proper maryādā; otherwise keep respectful vandan mentally.
- Essence: cultivate samyag‑darśan (right faith), ahiṁsā, kṣamā, and inner detachment.

Difference note (Śvetāmbara vs. Digambara)
- You asked for Śvetāmbara. Digambara paddhati and some sūtra texts/wordings differ; follow only your Śvetāmbara temple’s approved paddhati for Chaityavandan.
May this vidhi strengthen your śraddhā, ahiṁsā, and inner peace. Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṁ.
