When will paanchvo aaro end?
In Jain cosmology, time is divided into endless cycles called "Aara" (also spelled "Ara" or "Ārā"). Each half-cycle consists of six eras (Aara), which are periods characterized by increasing or decreasing happiness and spiritual progress.
Currently, according to Jain tradition, we are in the fifth Aara (Pancham Aara) of the present descending half-cycle (Avasarpini) in Bharat Kshetra (our world). The fifth Aara is known as "Dukhama-Sukhama," a period of both happiness and sorrow, but with more sorrow and spiritual decline.
Duration of Pancham Aara:
According to Jain scriptures, the fifth Aara lasts for 21,000 years. It is generally believed among Jains that this Aara started a little after the Nirvana (liberation) of Lord Mahavira, which is calculated to be around 2,500 years ago.
When will it end?
Given this calculation, about 18,500 years are left before the end of the Pancham Aara. After it ends, the sixth Aara (Chhath Aara), which is a period of extreme misery and decline ("Dukhama"), will begin and last for 21,000 years.
Summary:
- Pancham Aara (fifth era) will end in about 18,500 years from now.
- After that, the sixth Aara will begin, marking a period of only sorrow and spiritual decline.
These calculations are based on traditional Jain texts and are symbolic representations of cosmic time cycles.
