“14 Suppan” means the fourteen auspicious dreams (chaturdasha swapna) that Mother Trishalā saw when the soul of Bhagwān Mahāvīr descended into her womb (Garbha‑Kalyānak). These dreams are divine signs that a Tirthankar is going to take birth. During Mahavir Janma Kalyānak (Mahavir Jayanti), we celebrate and worship these 14 dreams to remember the Lord’s arrival and to cultivate the virtues each dream symbolizes (such as fearlessness, purity, compassion, restraint, and supreme knowledge). That is why temples do “14 swapna pūjan,” display the dreams in processions, and sing their meanings during the Janma‑vanchan.

• Shvetāmbara: Mother sees 14 dreams; hence “14 Suppan” is emphasized and formally worshipped.
• Digambara: Mother is said to see 16 auspicious dreams, but the core purpose is the same—honoring the auspicious signs of a Tirthankar’s birth.
