What to tell while mahavir janma is happens in day 5
I will keep it simple and faithful to Jain tradition.
- Clarification about “day 5”:
What to recite/say on that occasion (Paryushan day 5 – Janma Vachan):
- First recite the Navkar Mantra (Namokar Mantra) with devotion.
- Do short Samayik and internal Prarthana for equanimity.
- Perform or attend Snatra Puja (Janmābhiṣek symbolism). During the abhishek, chant the Navkar Mantra and traditional stutis praising Arihants (no worldly requests).
- Read or listen to the Kalpasutra’s Janma Vachan (Shvetambar):
- Sing a gentle stavan in praise of Mahavir (keep it Jain-śāstriya and non-worldly).
- Conclude with Mangal Path and feelings of maitri for all souls.
Important differences (Shvetambar vs Digambar):
- Shvetambar: Public reading of Kalpasutra on Paryushan day 5 is traditional, including the transfer-of-embryo episode (Garbha-haran) and the Indra-abhishek on Meru.
- Digambar: Do not read Kalpasutra in Paryushan; instead, narrations come from Digambar āgamic/purāṇic sources. The embryo-transfer episode is not accepted. Celebration focuses on the Panch Kalyanak spirit and stavan/puja without those Shvetambar-specific details.
Short, respectful lines you can say during the celebration:
- “Namo Arihantanam. Bhagwan Mahavir Prabhu ki jai.”
- “Sarva jīvo maitri bhav rākhe, prāṇi mātra sukhī hoy.”
- “Mahavir Prabhu na Janma Kalyanak ni anant anant anandotsav!”
Essence to keep:
- Keep it nirpeksha and śuddha-bhakti: only praise of the Arihant, no worldly boons.
- Maintain samata, ahimsa, and kshamapana bhav the whole day.
