According to jaiasam jain ramayan and jain mahabharat era

In Jain tradition, the Ramayana and Mahabharata are also important epics, but they are interpreted differently than in Hinduism. Let’s look at both:

    Jain Ramayana (Jainasam or Paumachariya):

    • The Jain version of the Ramayana is called "Paumachariya" (Prakrit: "Padmacharita"), composed by Acharya Vimalasuri around the 3rd-4th century CE.
    • In Jain Ramayana, Lord Rama (Padma) is depicted as a pious, truth-loving, and non-violent person and is considered a Baladeva (gentle hero) in Jain universal history.
    • Lakshmana is depicted as the one who kills Ravana, not Rama. Rama remains steadfast in his vow of non-violence (ahimsa).
    • Ravana is portrayed as a learned and devout king, but with karmic bonds leading to his downfall.
    • Sita is never abducted by Ravana in the Jain version—instead, she is protected in Lanka.
    • The story emphasizes values like non-violence, truth, and self-restraint.

    Jain Mahabharata:

    • The Jain version of Mahabharata is called "Harivamsa Purana" by Acharya Jinasena and "Trishashti Shalaka Purusha Charitra" by Hemachandra Acharya, among others.
    • In Jain Mahabharata, Neminatha (the 22nd Tirthankara) is related to the Pandavas and Kauravas—he is their cousin.
    • The epic focuses on the principle of non-violence; the war is discouraged, and the tragic consequences of violence are highlighted.
    • Krishna is considered a Vasudeva (a heroic figure, not a god), and his death is shown as the result of karma.
    • The Jain versions avoid glorifying war and instead stress the importance of renunciation and spiritual progress.

    Era (Timeline):

    • In Jain cosmology, time is cyclical (Utsarpini and Avasarpini). Both Rama and Krishna are considered "Shalaka Purushas" (illustrious beings) who appear in every half-cycle (Avasarpini).
    • According to Jain texts, Rama and Krishna lived in the third or fourth Ara (age) of the current Avasarpini.
    • Neminatha, a contemporary of Krishna, is a historical Tirthankara in Jain tradition.

    Summary Table:

    | Epic | Jain Version Name | Main Character's Role | Unique Jain Features | |------------------|------------------------|----------------------------|--------------------------------------------| | Ramayana | Paumachariya | Rama as Baladeva | Lakshmana kills Ravana; ahimsa stressed | | Mahabharata | Harivamsa Purana, etc. | Krishna as Vasudeva | Neminatha as cousin; non-violence stressed |

If you have a specific question about Jain Ramayana, Jain Mahabharata, or their timeline, please clarify!
