“Dev guru pasay” is Prakrit.

• Dev = the Vītarāg Deva (Arihanta and Siddha), not heavenly gods.
• Guru = the true Jain preceptors (Āchārya, Upādhyāya, and Sādhu).
• Pasay (Prakrit: pasaya/passaya) = refuge, support, taking shelter.

Meaning: “I take refuge in the Vītarāg Devas and in the true Gurus.”

Note: Both Digambar and Shwetambar traditions understand it this way—seeking śaraṇa (refuge) of the Panch Parameṣṭhi, with “Dev” referring to Arihanta–Siddha and “Guru” to Āchārya–Upādhyāya–Sādhu.
