Can you enter gabara during periods
Short answer: No.
In Jain maryada, a woman in rajaswala (menstruation) should not enter the gabhāro/garbha-griha (inner sanctum) or touch the murtis and puja dravya. You may do namaskar from outside the sanctum, and you can do mental bhakti, japa, swādhyāy, or listen to pravachan at home.
- What to avoid: entering the sanctum, abhishek/snatra, aarti, touching scriptures or idols, preparing puja items.
- When to resume: traditionally after 72 hours (the 4th day) following a full bath and clean clothes. Local temple rules (maryada) may vary—follow them.
- Sect note: Both Digambar and Shwetambar traditions observe this restraint; specifics of duration/practice can differ by community, but the core guideline (no entry to the sanctum) is the same.
- Spiritual point: If entry happened unknowingly, do pratikraman with right bhāva and be careful next time.
